Real answers from people who cover football.

🏈 How to get recruited21 answers
How do I get recruited for college football?

Start with film, grades and an easy way for coaches to reach you. Build a short highlight video of your best plays, keep your grades up, create an NCAA Eligibility Center profile, and email college coaches your name, class year, position, height, weight and a link to your film. Camps, your high school coach and polite follow-up help too. One simple website makes it easy for a busy coach to see everything at once.

How do I get a college football scholarship?

Scholarships go to athletes whose film, measurables, grades and character a coach likes. Contact coaches early, keep your film current, stay academically eligible, and look at every level: Division I (FBS and FCS), Division II, NAIA and junior college (JUCO). Division III schools do not give athletic scholarships, but they may offer academic aid. No service can promise you a scholarship.

How do I get a college football offer?

An offer means a coach wants you on the team. Coaches usually evaluate your film first, then your measurables, grades and character, and often talk with your high school coach. Get your film in front of coaches, go to camps at schools you like, follow up, and ask your high school coach to call or email for you.

How do I talk to a Division 1 (D1) coach?

Athletes and parents can email or message a coach at any time. Coaches have limits on when they can reply, call or visit, and those depend on your grade and the NCAA calendar, so no reply right away is not a no. Keep your message short, polite and personal, say why you like their program, and include one link with your film, grades and contact info.

When can college coaches contact my athlete?

NCAA rules set when college coaches can call, text or visit, based on the athlete's grade and the time of year (contact, evaluation, quiet and dead periods). For Division I football, coaches usually cannot start calling or messaging until junior year. Athletes and parents can reach out at any time, and a coach can look an athlete up online at any time, so a site with your name on it matters even when a coach cannot call. Rules change, so check ncaa.org.

How do I email a college football coach, and what should a recruiting email say?

Use a clear subject line like: Your Name, Class of 2028, QB, Highlight Film. In a few lines, give your name, class year, position, height, weight, GPA and high school, one or two accomplishments, why you like that program, and one link. Send each coach their own email, not one mass email, and follow up politely a couple of weeks later.

When should I start the college football recruiting process?

You can start as early as freshman year, but there is no need to panic. Freshmen and sophomores should focus on getting stronger, keeping good grades and collecting film. Most serious evaluation happens in the sophomore and junior years. Create an NCAA Eligibility Center profile and start a list of schools early.

What do college football coaches look for in a recruit?

Film comes first. Then coaches look at size and athletic testing, like height, weight and your 40-yard dash time, plus grades and character: how you compete, how you treat teammates and how you take coaching. They also look at how you fit their offense or defense and what their roster needs.

What should be in a football highlight video?

Put your best plays first, within the first 30 seconds. Keep it short, about 3 to 5 minutes, and make sure a coach can easily see which player is you. Use game film, not just practice. Add your name, position, class year, height, weight and contact info at the start. Skip the long intro and the ads.

Is one highlight link enough, or do I need my own recruiting website?

A highlight link shows your plays, but a coach also wants to know who you are, your grades, your measurables, the camps you went to and how to reach you. A personal website puts all of it behind one link with your name on it, and you choose what a coach sees first. Many athletes send a film link, a resume and a transcript separately, and a busy coach may never open them all.

What is the difference between D1, D2, D3, NAIA and JUCO football?

Division I (FBS and FCS) is the highest NCAA level with the biggest programs. Division II is a middle level that offers some athletic scholarships. Division III does not offer athletic scholarships. NAIA is a separate association with its own rules and scholarships, and JUCO (junior college) is a two-year path many athletes use to improve and then transfer. The best level is the one that fits you.

What are the NCAA eligibility requirements for football?

To play at Division I or II, athletes need to graduate from high school, complete a set of NCAA-approved core courses, earn a minimum core-course GPA and be certified through the NCAA Eligibility Center. These rules change, so check ncaa.org for your graduation year.

What GPA do I need to play college football?

The NCAA sets a minimum core-course GPA for Division I and II, and it is around a 2.2 to 2.3, depending on the division and your class year. Schools and coaches usually want more than the minimum, and better grades mean more options and more academic aid. Check ncaa.org for the current number.

Do football camps and combines help you get recruited?

They can. Camps let coaches see you in person, time you and meet you. Pick camps at schools you really like, show up ready, and follow up with a thank-you email and your link. Be careful with camps that cost a lot but do not offer real time with coaches.

Does social media help football recruiting?

It can. Many coaches follow recruits on X (Twitter) and Instagram. Post film clips, camp results and academic news, keep it professional because coaches do look, and put your website link in your bio so a coach can find everything in one click.

How do I get noticed by college coaches if I am from a small school or have no offers?

Make your film and your link easy to find, email coaches directly, go to camps and ask your high school coach to reach out. Smaller programs at the D2, D3, NAIA and JUCO levels often recruit athletes from smaller schools. Be patient. Many players get their first offers late.

Can I play college football if I am not recruited? What is a walk-on?

Yes. A walk-on is a player who joins a team without an athletic scholarship, sometimes after a tryout. Some walk-ons earn scholarships later. Contact the coach, send your film and ask how their walk-on process works.

How can parents help with college football recruiting?

Help keep grades up, set up the NCAA Eligibility Center profile, build a list of schools, review emails before they go out and keep track of deadlines. Let your athlete lead the conversations with coaches when possible. Be careful with anyone who promises a guaranteed scholarship. No one can promise that.

What is a football recruiting profile, and do I need one?

A recruiting profile is a page with an athlete's stats, film and contact info. Some live on recruiting websites you log in to. You do not need to pay a recruiting service to be recruited. What matters is that a coach can quickly see your film, grades and contact info, and your own website can do that.

Are there college scholarships for girls flag football?

Yes, and the number is growing. The NAIA made women's flag football a championship sport starting in 2026-27, with about 60 schools expected to field teams and the first national championship set for spring 2027. NAIA schools can offer athletic scholarships for it. The NCAA named women's flag football an Emerging Sport for Women in January 2026, across Divisions I, II and III. The divisions vote on a national championship in January 2027, and the first one could be held in spring 2028. Division I and II schools may offer scholarships, and Division III schools do not give athletic scholarships. Flag football also debuts at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The rules are still changing, so check with each school.

Can high school athletes make money from NIL?

In many states, yes. NIL (name, image and likeness) lets athletes earn money from things like local business promotions, camps, signed gear and social media posts. The rules depend on your state and school, and some states do not allow high school NIL yet. Check with your state association and your school before you sign anything, and make sure a parent reviews every deal.

🔗 How OneLinkAthlete works16 answers
Is OneLinkAthlete legit?

Yes. OneLinkAthlete is a DBA of Quarterback Magazine, LLC, based in San Diego, CA, with more than 67,000 followers across Instagram, X and Facebook. A parent approves every site before it goes live, there is no contract, and all support is by email at Info@OneLinkAthlete.com.

What is OneLinkAthlete?

We build custom websites for youth and high school football athletes. Each site puts film, resume, certificates, grades, measurables and contact info behind one link, at a website name like yourname.com. A parent checks everything before it goes live.

What does OneLinkAthlete do after my site is built?

We stay your in-house team. We host your site and check it so it stays online, with no headaches for you. Every month we make your round of changes, anything you want, on or off the field: college camps you went to, volunteering at church, a new ranking, new stats, honor roll, another sport, a new photo shoot, your own ideas, and we make one free custom graphic or PDF. Hosting and care is normally $75 a month. It is included with Pay Monthly for your 36 payments, and with Pay Once for 3 years. After your site is paid off, your monthly drops to $25 for OneLinkCare until the athlete graduates.

What goes on an athlete website?

Whatever you want a coach to see. Most families choose a short highlight film first, then a bio, a photo, stats, measurables, grades, certificates, camps, volunteer work and an email address. We help you decide the order, and we can make custom graphics, like a freshman-to-senior growth chart, at no extra charge.

How much does an athlete website cost?

There are two plans, and both include your custom site, website name, hosting and daily care (normally $75 a month), one round of changes a month and a free custom graphic or PDF each month. Every plan also includes a recruiting one-sheet that we create and keep updated, at no extra cost. Pay Monthly is $49.99 a month (regularly $99) with no contract. You own your site after 36 payments, and then your monthly drops to $25 for OneLinkCare until the athlete graduates. Pay Once is $1,499 one time (regularly $1,750), and you own your site from day one. Everything is included for 3 years, then upkeep is $25 a month until the athlete graduates. After graduation, hosting is free for life.

How long does it take to build an athlete website?

Plan on 2 to 3 weeks after we receive your information form. We send you a mockup, you and your parent approve the design, our team finalizes it, and then we launch it.

Can I change my website after it launches?

Yes. Each plan includes one round of changes a month. Send all your changes in one email, anything you want, really anything: college camps you went to, volunteering at church, a new ranking, new film, photos, stats, honor roll, another sport or a fresh idea of your own, and we finish them in 7 days or less. If we make a mistake, we fix it for free.

Is an athlete website safe for my child?

A parent or guardian checks and approves everything before it goes live. You decide what goes on it, so only share contact details you want coaches to see. We do not add analytics or tracking tools, and all support is by email.

Can I show more than one sport?

Yes. If you play two or three sports, like football and baseball, your site can show all of them. We can add a button for each sport, with its own resume, stats and film, or put them together on one page. Football coaches and baseball coaches get the same one link, and they see the whole athlete.

Can middle school athletes sign up?

Yes. OneLinkAthlete is open to rising stars, not just high schoolers. Starting early is the smart move: with Pay Monthly, your site is paid off after 36 payments, so if you start in 5th grade, it is paid off by 8th grade. Youth league stats, team photos and flag football all count. Along the way you get hosting, upkeep, one free custom graphic every month and every new perk we add for founding members. A parent or guardian signs up and approves everything.

What website name should my athlete pick?

Keep it simple: two words, your name, like johnsmith.com. No slang and no profanity. Search the name on a domain site like GoDaddy to see if it is free, then tell us what you picked.

Do you guarantee a scholarship or an offer?

No. A website makes it easier for coaches to see your film, grades and contact info, but coaches make their own decisions. No one can honestly guarantee a scholarship or an offer.

Do you have a referral program?

Yes. For every athlete you refer, you get $50 in website credit. There is no limit, so 10 referrals is $500. Use it on your monthly payment, on upkeep after your site is paid off, or on a custom graphic. Credit is released once the new athlete has been with us for 60 days. It has no cash value. Have them put your name in their email to Info@OneLinkAthlete.com.

Is there a money-back guarantee?

Yes. You get 30 days after your site launches. If you are not happy, email us within those 30 days and we refund what you paid, minus the card processing fee. Card fees are set by Stripe, not by us. See the terms for details.

What happens if my card is declined?

Email us right away. You have 30 days to update your card or pay what is due, and your site stays live. After 30 days with no payment and no word from you, we pause your plan perks. After 90 days unpaid, we take the site down and you lose all plan benefits, including your founding price and progress toward owning your site. See the terms for details.

Can I cancel my plan?

Yes. Email us at least 30 days before you want billing to stop. There is no contract. You can also take your site with you. See the terms for details.

Does an athlete website help with NIL?

It can. A brand or local business wants to see who you are before working with you. Your site puts your film, stats, photos and contact info behind one link, and a parent controls what is on it. We build your website. We are not an NIL agent, we do not set up deals and we cannot promise you any.
